Skin Detox

Updated: Oct 28, 2021

What is Skin Detox and how do we differentiate it from other types of Detox?

Skin is no different from any other organ. It is a living organ with an immune system. Let's take our face- behind the protective outer layer there are muscles attached to the skin on the face there are nerve endings, circulation system and lymphatic system.

The lymphatic system is responsible for the removal of toxins, as well as transportation of white blood cells which are playing a huge role in fighting an infection. When the lymphatic system is imbalanced, toxins get stuck within the skin and under, causing all sorts of issues such as inflammation, water retention, swollen areas and puffiness. Think puffiness around the eyes, cheeks and neck.

Unlike the Circulatory System, the Lymphatic System does not have a pump and one of the most important practices to keep the Lymph flow easily around the face and body- is lymphatic drainage massage.

Lymphatic drainage helps to clear away toxins below the skin surface. When practised regularly, it promotes blood flow, smoothes the features, and improves your complexion, so it looks more beautiful. Not surprisingly, it is particularly recommended for anyone prone to dull skin as well as people with poor water retention problems.

However, it is essential to be performed correctly, with the light pressure moving towards the heart.

When lymphatic drainage is performed on a face the aim is to drain lymphatic fluid down toward the heart.

Massage your face gently with the pads of your fingers, always working upward first and after draining fluids towards ears and neck... The key to a good lymphatic drainage massage is to use gentle movements. Lymph, unlike the muscles on the face, should be treated with care.

Here are a few easy massage techniques I have created for Swedish Eco-Luxury Skincare Brand using their beautiful Seabuckthorn & Algae Treatment Oil.
